Lonie Allen

A combined funeral service for Lonie. Allen, 97 of Lafayette, LA, formerly of LaPorte who died on April 28,2017 and a memorial service for her son, James L. Allen, 68, of Florida, who died June 17, 2016 will be held Thursday, May 4, 2017 at 12:00 noon (Central Time) at Rannells Funeral Home, Hamlet Chapel. Burial will follow at the Woodlawn Cemetery, Walkerton with military graveside services being conducted for James. Friends may visit Thursday at the funeral home from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon CT for both Lonie and James.

Lonie was born November 27, 1919 in Waldo, KY to Boyd and Rachel (Bailey) Miller and moved to Hamlet in 1943. She retired from Beatty Memorial Hospital in 1981 and was a former member of the United Baptist Church in South Center. She was a very loving and nurturing person that helped raise two nephews and one sister-in-law. She was very proud to learn to read and write in her early 70's and loved to garden, especially flowers. She was adventurous, as long as it didn't involve water.

On April 27, 1946 in Hamlet, IN, she was married to Oscar Allen, who preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her parents; sons, James and Oscar Jr.; and 12 brothers and sisters.

Survivors include one daughter, Rachel (Willis) Gaspard of Lafayette, LA; two sons, Boyd (Marilyn) Allen of LaPorte and Walter (Mary) Allen of LaPorte; 17 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; and sister-in-law, Wilma Miller of Elizabethtown, KY.

James was born January 30, 1948 in LaPorte, IN. He was a U.S. Army veteran serving in the Vietnam War and earned a Purple Heart.

Survivors include two sons, Michael (Debbie) Allen of Michigan City and Brian (Annette) Allen of Indianapolis and six grandchildren.
