PLYMOUTH-Louis A. Schillig, 91, passed away Sunday, May 6, 2018 at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center, Mishawaka, IN.
Louis was born and raised in Chicago. He married his high school sweetheart, Betty, on September 26, 1953. They also owned a home at Koontz Lake since 1963, becoming a full time resident in Plymouth in 2010.
Survivors include his wife, Betty; son, Scott Schillig of Grovertown; daughter, Sandi (Jeff) Zehner of Walkerton; grandchildren, Sgt. Michael (Leandra) Zehner and Julia (SPC David) Walsh; and nephew, Jim (Kathy) Schillig.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Louis A. and Edith (Noetzel) Schillig; sister, Dorothea Schillig; and brother, Marvin Schillig.
Mr. Schillig was a retired engineer with the Chicago Fire Department for 31 years. He was a U.S. Navy Veteran of WWII and a lifetime member of the American Legion Post #0667 of Chicago. He was a member of the Chicago Firefighters Union Local 2 and owner, with his wife Betty, of the Schillig Dental Lab in Chicago for over 50 years. He enjoyed woodworking and leather tooling as hobbies.
Funeral services will be Saturday, May 12, 2018 at 3:00 p.m. EDT at Rannells Funeral Home, Koontz Lake Chapel.
