Maxine Harris

WALKERTON-Maxine Cox Harris, 93, formerly of LaPorte, loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother, went home to the Lord peacefully at home with her children at her bedside on February 9, 2018.

Maxine was born June 1, 1924 in Petros, TN to William and Ellen (York) Cox. On January 3, 1944 in Rossville, GA, she was married to Carl W. Harris, who preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Harvey Lee Cox and Charlie Cox; sister, Ruby Smith; and great-grandson, Marc Devon Lantz.

Survivors include two daughters, LaVena (Robert) Ware of London, TN and Margaret (Chuck) Wallis of South Bend; son, Bobbie L. (Linda Cioch) Harris; sister, Marvine Cox Rainey of Oliver Springs, TN; grandchildren, Joedy Lantz, Todd (Lori Rose) Aaron, Elizabeth (John) Young, Laura (Rob) Archer and Katharine Griggs; 10 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Prior to her marriage, Maxine was employed by Oak Ridge National Laboratory and Burlington Hosiery Mill, which made parachutes during WWII. In 1952 she moved from Tennessee to LaPorte, IN where she retired from American Rubber. She enjoyed fishing with her husband, crocheting, flower gardening and mostly, bird watching.

Funeral services will be Wednesday, February 14, 2018 at 12:00 noon (Central Time) at Rannells Funeral Home, Koontz Lake Chapel. Burial will follow at the Pine Lake Cemetery, LaPorte.
