HAMLET-Willard E. Knight, 78, passed away Friday, August 25, 2017 at the Catherine Kasper Home, Donaldson, IN.

Willard was born June 8, 1939 in Deer Isle, Maine to Ernest and Elizabeth (Stinson) Knight. On June 23, 1962 in Cleveland, he married Vivian Sutherland, who preceded him in death in 2004. On March 11, 2005 in Knox, he married Linda Goze, who survives along with one daughter, Beth (David) Sluka of Mantua, OH; five step-children, Wayne Merrell of Akron, OH, Cindy (Mark) Farley of Akron, OH, Linda Hegedish of Streetsboro, OH, Jerald Hattery of Hamlet and Roberta (Marvin) Collins of Hamlet; 21 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and sister, Barbara (Alan) Wolf of Avon Lake, OH. He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Vivian and sister, Pauline Black.

Willard was retired from the Indiana Department of Corrections in Michigan City as a correction officer. He was formerly a security guard at Ancilla College and the Living Center and a former member of the Meat Cutters Union, responsible for many Kroger stores in Ohio. He was a former member of the Fraternal Order of Elks and a former member of the Merchant Marines, where he coined the phrase "Homeward Bound" as his mantra and sailed around the world eight times.

There will be no services or visitation. Cremation will take place. Rannells Funeral Home, Hamlet Chapel is handling arrangements.
